The Twin Tunnels are located in the sage-covered desert between Yakima and Ellensburg. I hiked up in my flats (not a good idea). We saw rattlesnake skins throughout our little adventure (thankful we didn’t see any live ones). Some of the basalt cliffs rise more than 2,000 ft. We hung out above the tunnel on these rocks, overlooking the highway and the Yakima River. It was a beautiful day and we were very thankful to watch the day drift into sunset.
*Here is an old photo from back in the day when the tunnels were in use.
